In today's hospital environment, technology is starting to take over the role of the patient. Doctors are starting to give more importance to Abraham Varghese's iPatient and to use the patient only to create an iPatient. One example Verghese gives his audience is the difference in how doctors conduct visits during training shifts and now. Back then, a group of doctors in training surrounded a patient in his bed because the focus was on the patient. Today, doctors in training are seen in a different environment. The discussion takes place “in a room away from the patient. The discussion is about the images on the computer, the data.” In today's hospital environment the patient has been completely replaced by the iPatient. Because of this, the patient is essentially left wondering what is going on and can only hope that the doctors make the best decision. By caring for the patient through iPatient and keeping them informed of their condition, patients can be confident that their caregivers are doing everything they can to make their patients better
