The purpose of this essay is to examine the different approaches to being a working mother or remaining on maternity leave. The obvious advantages and disadvantages as well as the current possibilities in our country will also be discussed. Five years ago the new adjustment of maternity leave came into force in the Czech Republic. Currently, not only can one parent stay at home with the child, but they can also choose the two-year, three-year or four-year option. The possibility of choice is the most appreciated. Accordingly, the new two-year variant of maternity leave is suitable for women in higher job positions who would like to return to work earlier and who at the same time do not want to face a sharp drop in income.
