Compare and contrast the two media campaigns from a historical perspective. How are they similar? How are they different? From a historical perspective, both products are similar in that they are both men's shaving products and both were successful in sales in their respective eras although they used different marketing strategies. They also looked alike because they used humor to capture the attention of future buyers. The difference between the two was that the Burma Shave Club only used street signs as a form of advertising, but then again Burma Shave came out in the 1920s, so I personally think their marketing strategy was good for that time period . They were popular until 1963, when the last signs appeared. The dollar Why was it so effective at the time? Burma Shave used street signs to reach their audience. It was effective because the phrases and poems on the signs were cheeky and funny and reading one sign made you wonder what you will read when you see another sign. The Dollar Shave Club used modern technology and humor in the form of a video commercial to reach its target audience. It's effective because Michael Dubin, the company's CEO and star of the commercial, implemented just enough humor into the message that you're more likely to remember what it was about, thus creating sales for the company. Based on your research, which media campaign was the most innovative for its time? Why? I would say that the Burma Shave campaign was the most innovative for its time because, although it was designed for men who shave, there were also signs that women liked it too. For example, one of the signs posted in 1930 read: Your husband / misbehaves / grunts and grumbles / rants and raves / shoots the brute some / shaves in Burma. This specific sign spoke to There was a specific commercial that I saw on YouTube where there were some girls and they were asking them questions like; “What does it mean to do things like a girl?” and "Have you ever been told that you do something 'like a girl?' The campaign teaches girls not to limit themselves to what society says girls should do. One of their slogans is "Don't stop until you're UNSTOPABLE!" I think it's a good message to spread to girls of all ages. What "demographic" is this campaign aimed at? Do you feel like you specifically match their target, or might they be surprised that you're a fan? The campaign targets women of all ages and races, especially younger generations. I hope to one day have girls of my own so I can teach them that they are not meant to just be housewives and not listen to people who tell them they can't do certain things because that's not what girls are supposed to do. I don't think anyone would be surprised that I'm a fan of the campaign. By now you should have joined the week 3 work simulation team.
