Topic > Reflection on leadership and the ethical classroom

Transformational leadership must be applied with care and control, because having experienced it in Fiji and in the workplace, it can be subject to abuse by leaders. It could lead to unethical behavior of leaders and especially affect political leaders who are members of a collective group, who use coercive forces to transform followers, known as pseudotransformational leadership behavior. In this case, authentic leadership is preferable. Genuine, transparent leadership, based on moral values and attentive to people's needs and values. Servant Leadership, having personally experienced in my religious organization that despite the fact that leaders are expected to lead by example, the challenge is when followers or committee members produce fewer extraordinary results. Followers or committee members in the church often believe that by being a leader and a servant at the same time, they can step in and complete most of the ongoing programs or tasks in the church. Therefore, being aware of this attitude on the part of followers or committee members, team leadership could apply team leadership to complement servant leadership addressing this type of situation.
