Introduction Initially the media were used mainly for educational and informational purposes. However, over time this boundary has become increasingly blurred, as today media is also used as entertainment. One of the most influential events in the history of media is probably the invention of television. Subsequently, in less than a decade, from 1946 to 1955, the TV was part of the home of 65% of Americans. Singaporean writer Jess C. Scott said: “People are sheep. TV is the shepherd.' (Literary heroine (goodies): a parody of Twilight, 2012). This is unfortunately true, nowadays the young generations are obsessed with television. Statistics state that the time spent in front of the TV by young people, aged between 8 and 18, increased from 3.8 to 4.5 hours per day, in the period from 1999 to 2009. (Rideout, Foehr and Roberts , 2010). About two decades ago, a new medium was created - the Internet, which led to the formation of social media. Over the last decade, the Internet has rapidly found its niche in the leisure time of media consumers; the number of people with an Internet connection at home grew by 544% during the aforementioned time period (internet usage and world population statistics are as of June 30, 2012). Society and media are mainly connected to each other. Furthermore, not only is society influenced by mass media, but media contents, in turn, are shaped by society and its counterparts. The most significant impacts are provided by political, economic and technological factors. In general, these aspects indicate what to include in media content and what means to use in its distribution. Politics Media content is closely linked to government and legislation. The government controls the media through censorship and other possible policies and regulations. For example, sales of content that… middle of paper… Noir and Blackstone Pinot Noir grew 22 and 150 percent, respectively. Likewise, tourism to California's wine regions increased by 30%. Technology The last but not least contributor to media content is technology. Technology defines how media can exist and cooperate. If television had not been invented, print would likely remain more powerful in terms of influencing consumers. Before the invention of the Internet, media was considered "traditional" and was quite limited with one-to-many communication, anonymous recipients, one-way communication, and absolute divergence between producers and consumers. In Uzbekistan, technological progress did not influence the media that much until 2010, as it took some time for media companies to exploit the Internet as a medium. Even now, the middle-aged class of the population still prefers magazines and TV.
