Topic > Analysis of the short story of "Soft Rains Will Come" by...

The poem symbolizes that nature continues even when humans die. “The robins will wear their feathered fire, whistling their antics on a low fence wire; and no one will know about the war, no one will care, in the end, when it's over. No one would mind, neither bird nor tree, if mankind perished completely” (Bradbury, par.41). The poem comes right before the house is destroyed. At the end of the story a tree falls on the house and causes a fire that destroys the house. “The wind was blowing. A fallen tree branch crashed into the kitchen window. The room was in flames in an instant…Among the ruins, a wall stood alone” (Bradbury, par.47 and par.62). This fire is symbolic of true natural destruction, meaning that technology will fail and nature will prevail. Now, technology was created by humans. Human beings died through human fault. Just like in World War II. Japan bombed the United States and killed thousands of people. Then the United States bombed Japan and killed thousands. It's not the bomb's fault, it's humanity's fault
