Topic > The Effects of Color and Light on Your Mood - 1567

When I was younger and felt "under the weather" or was having a bad day, my mother would always kick me outdoors and tell me to soak up some sun. I always thought it was all mumbo jumbo, the sun can't really have an effect on my mood can it? As a child I thought it was a myth, just another way for my mother to subtly tell me to stop moping around the house and get me outdoors. Come to find out, his words of wisdom were true, the sun really does impact your mood! Have you ever felt like you were walking in the sun and nothing could get you down? Or have you ever needed more than a couple of presses on the snooze button to wake up and find yourself already in a bad mood, only for it to get worse when you leave? All you want to do is crawl into a corner and hide for the rest of the day? These could just be reactions to the effects of light and color. Light and color, both natural and indoor lighting, can play tricks on the way your body thinks, influence your sleep habits, and impact your overall well-being. There are many ways that light and color can play tricks on the way your body thinks. Color impacts everything. When you walk into a restaurant and you're immediately hungry that's one way color has an influence. When you feel anxious in one room and calm in another is another way that color has an effect, this is all due to the atmosphere of that room, which is altered by the color. This figure shows adult/elderly, multicultural, and psychopathological responses on their color preferences from 25 different color studies. Older and psychopathological people hardly deviated from normal responses. (Schatz and Bowers 21-27) How to speak...... middle of paper ......781). Light and color definitely have an effect on our mood and overall well-being. Whether it's the functioning of all your body's systems, strengthening your vision, providing restful sleep, or simply making you smile, light and color play an important role. When you see a food addition on television and your stomach growls in favor, it might be a good idea to check the colors in the background, they might mess with your mind. The next time you're having a nice day and you don't know why, maybe look up at the sky and see if the sun is shining, or the next time you're down and don't feel like getting out of bed, maybe it's a gloomy day. and you feel the rain. If someone tells you that you have a sunny personality, maybe it's because you've had good weather or next time you're sad maybe you need to paint your walls to liven it up!
