How I Learned to Ski I love snow skiing, for me it's the epitome of excitement. I tried skiing for the first time when I was only four years old. My father, who is an exceptional skier, thought he should teach his first son how to ski. Through practice and time I made my father a happy teacher. I owe all my knowledge of skiing to my father who spent hours and hours teaching me the so-called "tricks of the trade". However, I have broken more than a few bones learning what turns out to be a very intense and serious sport and you shouldn't take the excitement for granted. I started when my dad had a Powder Eight competition, that's when you and your partner go down the hill and make the number eight in the snow with your skies, the team with the best eights wins. As usual my father won, and it was that day that he taught me to ski for the first time. He showed me how to snowplow down a hill, which is the first move you learn while skiing, then he so willingly took me up the bunny hill and looked at me carefully, as if he remembered when he was that age and how weird and embarrassing it was yeah felt with those clumsy skis and those big boots. It was so warm that day and yet the snow remained and continued to fall from the skis. Then my father showed me the basic techniques he acquired while learning to ski, you see, there is no standard way of skiing, everyone has to find their own style of skiing or snowboarding. As you may find out, this sport is not something you are good at straight away, it takes time and practice to get good at it. When I grew up we would go to the bigger mountains in Colorado, where he lives, we would spend all day skiing on difficult slopes called double Diamonds, which is the hardest slope on the slopes. At first it was difficult for me to keep up with the incredible speed and coordination of my father who could actually go down a mountain, for an amateur skier he was a real professional for me, I would try to copy his style because he was what I knew learned very well. When I managed to find the style that best suited me I was amazed at how quickly I had learned to ski, I know that when my father and I went down the mountain he was the one who had to keep up with me
