The Chinese population has expanded to the point of causing a major global crisis. The Chinese government has come up with many possible solutions to try to help the population of this country grow more and more, but there is no solution yet. (Yahoo News, 3) This is a very difficult problem to overcome simply by willing it. In Chinese beliefs, large families are a vital part of traditional Chinese culture. And so, this situation requires more than just the government telling the Chinese people to have only one child. (Carnell, 2). Large families were highly desired in traditional China. Many children were wanted, because most died before reaching maturity. Some were accustomed to working the land to provide security for their parents, to carry out ancestral rites, and to carry on the family name. (Seybolt, 209) In Western Europe, as the population increased, villages had changed farming methods, started new crafts, built more shops; therefore citizens found new incomes. (Mitchison, 23) In 1998, the population growth rate was 0.83% and the average life expectancy of Chinese people was about 69.59 years. (Yahoo News, 2) By February 15, 1995, China's population had reached 1.2 billion people. Over the past few years, annual birth rates have averaged about 21 million births, a net increase of 14 million. (Yahoo News, p.1) “Plans for agriculture, industry, education, healthcare, housing, and employment are all affected by population size and population estimates for the future ." (Seybolt, 209) In the country of China, an often said phrase is, “Too many people, not enough land.” (Mitchison, 23) This saying really fits this specific nation with billions of citizens… middle of paper… crowded into cities when the company needs to spread across the country. a solution, why not let the Chinese people know what will happen in the end if they are not careful about how many children families have. The United States depends on its citizens using birth control or protection. This is not because the United States is overpopulated, but because the American people want to provide for their children and put food on the table for them, and they do this not through prostitution, but by getting real jobs and keeping them. . No, not all Americans are like this, but the majority are. While the Chinese may be more prevalent than the United States when it comes to using birth control, the United States is not overpopulated. Even though China's population may continue to grow and grow, the country's borders cannot expand.
