Topic > The Importance of Free Will in A Clockwork Orange, by…

The Russian American writer Ayn Rand once said: “Man is a being endowed with free will; therefore every man is potentially good or bad, and it is up to him and only him (through his rational mind) to decide what he wants to be. The meaning behind Rand's words is that an individual has the power to choose between good and evil and it is that power that allows a human being to truly live as human. However, it is when that specific power, those choices, and the freedom to act on those choices are taken away that an individual is not truly considered a being. Without the power of choice, choices and free will in one's life, a person, although breathing, does not actually live. Free will is an extremely important part of human life because it is precisely what makes a human being, what allows one to live and lead a life different from that of countless other individuals in the world. The theme of the power to choose between good and evil and that of free will can be perfectly illustrated in Anthony Burgess' dystopian and philosophical novel, A Clockwork Orang Crime And Criminality Case Study - 2439
