Topic > Why I want to connect my life with the fashion industry

Fashion is the proof of human evolution. The industry now more than ever is recognizing the need for diversity and embracing its broader meaning, which until recently largely referred to race. However, there are ongoing debates and discussions as to whether this will last or whether it will just be the effect of “diversity drag”. Studying this course will better prepare me to help make the movement more permanent by emphasizing the power of authentic representation and greater inclusivity behind the scenes and not just in front of the camera. I am also enrolling in this course because I am interested in managing the fashion business instead of following the design path. Say no to plagiarism. The role of fashion has expanded and been redefined over the years. It is no longer just a reflection of our personalities but now a tool for expressing political and social beliefs. I especially admire designers like Olivier Rousteing, creative director of Balmain, who are giving fashion a new vision, paving the way for a more inclusive future. The industry is attracting a new breed of fashion professionals. The roles overlap and complement each other, making networking and teamwork vital. My academic achievements include Best Overall Team, Challenge Team, and Contributing Writer at the Regional Round of the World Scholars Cup. This shows that I am a team player. I was also the graduation coordinator for the class of 2017 at my school. This responsibility helped me develop time management skills. Coming from a diverse background myself and attending a school with a global student body has definitely made me more culturally and socially aware. I have a world-class learning ability and a desire to broaden my skills which will be helpful in keeping up with the fast-paced nature of the fashion industry. Having studied economics and business for both my IGCSE and A levels, and also won the Economics Student of the Year award in 2016, has made me confident in developing transferable soft skills such as analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to predict economically oriented events. These skills will not only help me excel in the course, but also in the career path I intend to pursue in the fashion purchasing industry, which has to do with trend forecasting. Having been awarded the Best Psychology Writer and Best Speaker also at the regional round of the World Scholars Cup in 2014, shows that I have excellent verbal and presentation skills. The skills I have gained from studying IT for my A levels will enable me to keep up with the technological aspect of the course. I believe it's important to take initiative when it comes to personal development. I am proud to be self-taught. This will help me adjust to university life smoothly as independent study constitutes more than teaching and lectures at university. Completing the bronze level of the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award has given me the confidence to face challenges confidently and move forward. I decided to take a gap year to focus on my personal development and better prepare myself for the course and life after graduation. I think being multilingual gives a person a competitive advantage and an edge in this industry. Therefore now I intend to improve my knowledge of French and then take another one.
