This however means that the public can only be exposed to what the government allows them to see. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Because young people use the Internet every day, they are often exposed to graphic images, indecent photos, gambling and many other types of content aimed at people who are many years older. It provides a form of filtering that to some extent protects these people from the media. they don't want to see. A positive form of censorship would be the 9 o'clock watershed. The watershed aims to protect children from harmful material broadcast on television and radio. The watershed contains a set of rules that all UK broadcasters must abide by. Under the stipulated conditions that no content deemed unsuitable for children may be broadcast between 5.30am and 9pm. Another point to consider about censorship is how it may have helped us in the past. During both World Wars the media was heavily censored and although it could be argued that the public had a right to know what was happening abroad, whether newspapers reported every battle lost by the Allies or the number of casualties Britain was suffering , then the people would have dissolved into the war and it is believed that this could have led to defeat. The public wasn't necessarily lying about what was happening, but they focused more on the Allies' triumphs and not their defeats. During war, however, countries have been known to openly lie about their situation within the war. In World War I the Kaiser made sure that newspapers informed the public that Germany was on the verge of winning the war and that the surrender of the Allies was imminent. So November 1918 arrived and the Kaiser abdicated. The German population felt deceived and confused and this led many Germans to refuse to accept their surrender. Like many things nowadays, censorship is a good thing if used correctly. If a country does not have any form of censorship, this could lead to the innocence of childhood suffering and more extremist newspapers expressing their opinions and contaminating the truth. On the other hand, if the media is too censored, it will affect things like freedom of speech and many other human rights. Please note: this is just an example.
