Topic > Understanding Evolution: Vestigial Structures

Humans are curious creatures, and finding out where they come from is one way to satisfy their curiosity. This leads to the discovery of a logical reason known as evolution. Evolution provides answers to how we progress as humans thanks to the evidence provided by fossils and DNA. In the year 1859, Mr. Charles Darwin wrote a book titled “The Origin of Species,” which pioneered a theory that became a fact. It has been rectified over the years so it is now a very reliable historical fact which is being supported by evidence stored in the earth and, interestingly enough, in our bodies, we can now see that everything shares an ancestor. And I support the claim that we evolved from a common ancestor. Say no to plagiarism on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Get an Original Essay Evolution is a theoretical fact whose merits have been elaborated time and time again. A broad title called scientific theory tested the theory. A theory is a statement that is not supported by evidence. In science, we refer to a hypothesis. Mr. Darwin formulated a hypothesis which he later published in the book mentioned above. He revealed observations that had no evidence through these notes and began to acquire evidence to support the hypothesis. These notes were notable for the notable amount of overlooked observations. What makes it important is that the explanation was simple and, compared to what was already known, the chances of it being true were great. The law of parsimony states that fewer hypotheses decide on an observation can be the correct way to explain that hypothesis. When this evidence came to the fore, a group of knowledgeable scientists criticized it. This is a peer review because they point out the flaws and give their honest opinion on the topic. When evolution was praised, the many criticisms caused other scientists to look for evidence to support it. Now, evolution is a fact taught in schools because, when tested, it has been established as truth. It is important to note that evolution is a new term to describe this process. Darwin explained evolution using the phrase "descent with modification" through a process called natural selection. This means that some characteristics of an animal will appear different in their offspring over time. It is therefore a gradual process; these animals need to reproduce. To reproduce, they must be of age to mate, give birth and raise their young. When an organism is healthy, it has a good gene or good traits. These genes are often found in young people because they are possessed by one or both parents. Nature wants every organism to be at its maximum potential. So, when there is a faulty gene or trait in the gene pool, we do our best to get rid of it. It does this by killing the organism before it can reproduce. This is natural selection. Natural selection does not mean that all previous organisms must die. The environment plays a role in this. Animals in different environments develop traits to survive in that environment through adaptation. An example of this are bears. Polar bears have white fur to camouflage them from predators and hunters. Other bears have black or brown fur. Research shows that polar bears have black skin but the fur is hollow, making it appear white. This shows that the polar bear had to adapt to the environment to survive. If they had dark fur in a completely white environment, they would all have died because they were hunted. So, to survive in this environment, a good feature to have was burrowed fur. This means that when the bears from..
