Came as an epiphany as I reflected on my life's purpose while contemplating accepting a significant job promotion. So, I took a “leap of faith” and, after careful consideration and much reflection, I decided to resign from my position as Senior Operations Manager to pursue my long-term desire to be part of the Peace Corps' fight for a greatest cause for humanity. My life changed three years ago when, after struggling for six years as a single parent, I lost my daughter to leukemia. Although I continued to strive to lead a meaningful life, all symbolic socioeconomic statuses and “fulfillment” ambitions in my life purpose seemed tiny and unfulfilled. My decision was not arbitrary or capricious; After extensive research into its mission and global initiatives, I chose the Peace Corps because it closely aligned with my ambitions to lead a more magnanimous life. These interactions not only allowed me to develop intellectual, emotional, and interpersonal skills to succeed in each of these organizations, but they allowed me to develop pragmatic, communication, and team-building strategies to help me clarify concepts to broad audiences. However, some of the deeper coping mechanisms that I believe will help me prepare emotionally and psychologically for the Peace Corps, I developed while living abroad. I also recognize that the Peace Corps will be one of the most difficult assignments I have undertaken. This is mainly due to the fact that I will not only be working in another country, but I will also be immersing myself in the culture, which is undoubtedly a formidable task. So, as I reflect on all the ways I am preparing for life and work in the Peace Corps and beyond, I know that living in Puerto Rico for a year as an exchange student and my international travels have given me the tools to succeed emotionally and psychologically while, 374(4), 363-371.
