Entertainment and News News coverage, whether via television, radio, the Internet or newspapers, must be selective – selective not only in the stories it reports, but also in the way it presents them. The media cannot provide an account of everything that happened in one day. Therefore, editors, journalists, etc… decide what will be included in the reports. Just as importantly, journalists are still human beings who, despite their good intentions, sometimes succumb to anger, jealousy, anxiety, impatience and other emotions that may cloud their objectivity. They belong to large, complex organizations that have different, often conflicting, objectives and needs. So, report a story “as it is”; it can become difficult due to individual schedules. Entertainment is about holding your attention with something fun or entertaining. News is information about recent events. In recent history, news has become a commodity. Therefore, news must sell. News organizations use entertainment as a basis to convince the viewer to watch their news program. Manheim argues “that the media is not as diverse as it claims to be. He states, although for competitive purposes they might have us believe otherwise, most American news organizations have much in common with each other…they define the news itself in essentially the same terms (Manheim, 1991).
