It uses two types of women, one who is submissive to her husband, the other is rebellious but still depends on men to live her life and be happy and the opposite Stanley who is an ignorant man. At the beginning of the story, Stella's character is calm and happy, but after her sister Blanche moves into their house, problems arise. She is torn between her sister and her husband. he tries to find a balance between the two but as the story progresses he has to choose one. Stanley doesn't like Blanche's attitude that she is superior to him. He doesn't like being inferior to a woman. William uses alcohol and poker to create conflict and develop character. They start arguing and he hits her. Stella says it's "no big deal" like Blanche (William) thinks. While Blanche insists that his action is animalistic, Stella accepts him as he is because she thinks his violence has done no harm to their relationship. Furthermore, she assures Blanche that "he was always violent and destroying things", but she is happy because she believes this brings the best in their relationship.
