I am a university student and I am from Vietnam. This is my third term at the CNM. I'm nineteen and have lived in New Mexico for five. I was born and lived in Vietnam for fourteen years. I spent fourteen years of life in Vietnam before moving to America. I have missed my country ever since my grandfather wanted me and my family to move here. Moving to America gave me more opportunities to go to school and have a better life. I'll talk a little about my background, interests and goals. When I arrived in America there were many things that amazed and changed me. For example the Amerian lifestyle. One of them is my cultural history. I thought Vietnam's most important holiday, like Lunar New Year, would be forgotten because since a small percentage of Asians live here, they probably don't celebrate the holiday, but my grandfather tells me there are still Vietnamese churches and temples that practice their faith of culture. They still celebrate all their traditional holidays. I started going to church and exploring my life by participating in activities like joining clubs, playing sports. As a college student, my dream was to become a dental hygienist. My goal gets closer and closer every day and I thought that one day I would achieve it in the future. As a college student, my main goal is to help people, become a dental hygienist, and take care of my parents. I started my studies at Sandia High School and was a freshman. Language is something I'm struggling with. I have trouble communicating with people because most words are pronounced the same. I enrolled in the ESL program to develop my English skills. My uncle is the one who inspired me with his great successes in life to...... middle of paper ......if life increasingly offers me more and more possibilities and opportunities. The quote read: “Opportunity doesn't knock, it comes when you slam the door (Kyle Chandler).” I break down the door that I have and built educated for myself and wait for the opportunity to come and use it for my goals, I always remind myself not to waste opportunity because I never know when it will come back when it's gone. Moving to America is the greatest gift God has given me. I have become a more thoughtful person. I become more mature through each experience and challenge. I have completely changed and I admit it. Having family on my side helps me be more successful in school and in life. I will not give up, I will chase my dreams and walk to the end of the path I have chosen to walk. I will become the person who succeeds in life, the one who always fights even if there is no tomorrow.
