Topic > The writer that I am - 1147

Does one ever stop to think about how one begins to write or it just happens. The writing process for many of us can be a long and arduous process. You sit and think and wonder where do I start, what am I talking about. There are many conditions involved in writing that could prevent someone from actually being able to write, this is called writer's block. You may be wondering what writer's block is, this is something that most people don't even know exists. Writer's block is the condition in which one cannot think of what to write or how to proceed with writing. If you find yourself having this problem, there are actually different types of writer's block and different ways you can overcome it. I believe I have signs of this condition, but I believe I have found my own method of overcoming it where I break my writing down into steps. The way we were taught to write also has a negative effect on us. Mike Rose wrote a piece about writer's block in which he discussed it with ten students to see how it affected them. I have found that my writing process and struggles with writer's block are similar to that of a student in Mike Roses' piece. "Mike begins to prepare materials, strategies and plans that he deems appropriate. If the assignment meets his expectations he has done a good job analyzing the professor's intentions." (Rose 244). “Mike also uses a problem-solving procedure that hinders him” (Rose 244). Mike and I share very similar opinions. For me, writing is always a difficult task; I'll be honest, I don't like writing. I'm a person who always has a lot of things on my mind. Before I start writing I need to clear my head. To have an organized mind I believe that it is necessary to have an organized work space... means of paper... "To date there are no studios of writers who compose in a natural environment" (Berkenkotter). why is it that writing should not be studied and seen in a natural environment and not at the time or place of the person conducting the study. In conclusion, the writing process for many can be a difficult and tiring time. My process is writer's block and ways I keep it from distracting me from writing. Sixty percent of the process would be my first phase, which is planning and drafting. 30% of my second step, which is to do two, is to make sure that all my statements are supported and well connected. Ten percent goes to the last step of the writing process, which is writing a strong conclusion and revising my paper. If you haven't had time to evaluate your writing process, I would recommend it, it opens new doors to the world of writing.
