A video game is “an electronic game in which players control images on a television or computer screen” (Merriam-Webster). Video games have entertained and challenged players since the Game Boy to modern console gaming. Despite the simplicity of the video game definition, a video game, especially those that contain violence, can have a great effect on the player. Due to realism and advances in the video game industry, video games can influence the player and make him more aggressive, even if the game is not a violent video game. Although the popularity of video games has grown over the past decade, some have not been popular with parents because they are too violent. Violent video games affect children's behavior and health, video games also affect people's social and academic lives. Finally, what do parents do about violent video games? The effect of video games can be harmful to the player's physical health. When someone plays video games, they are in a sitting position. “Studies have shown important health effects related to time spent sitting, such as an increase in type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease” (Asap Science). In this study researchers have shown that sitting for long periods of time can lead to many health problems, since the gamer sits while playing games, it can be said that video games can also cause health problems. Furthermore, in the same study, researchers found a correlation between mortality and sitting (Asap Science). The longer one sits, the more likely they are to die prematurely. Video games also add to the already growing obesity problem.
