If the circumstances of Doctor Khalili's case were examined and judged according to the utilitarian approach it would not be a crime, rather it would become legislation that one could choose for the purposes of living life with the assistance of a trusted physician to relieve the pain, suffering and unhappiness associated with an incurable disease, or any disease or painful situation that would reduce the quality of one's life and cause pure unhappiness. This can in fact also mean putting an end to any suffering, by personal choice when there is simply no hope of happiness. Therefore, this decision would be judged correct according to the utilitarianism approach. Additionally, as baby boomers begin to experience end-of-life issues, this may become a necessary solution to end suffering when there is a shortage of caregivers.
