Three Types of Dieters A sad fact in American society is that thousands of people seek the elusive dream of being thin. Every day you find neighbors, friends and relatives following some sort of diet. Dieters take on various disguises, but notable ones are the "bandwagoneer," the "up-and-comer," and the "lethal loser." Everyone wants to lose weight quickly and effortlessly; therefore, any fad diet that promises instant results becomes the new "call" of the "bandwagon". He tries the grapefruit diet or the watermelon diet, but decides his stomach can't handle all that fruit. The next day the television advertises a new miracle pill that allows the user to lose up to ten pounds in a week, and the "bandwagon" answers the "call." Even if the magic pill doesn't produce the desired weight loss, he never gives up hope of having a new "wagon" to hook onto. Once again, this dieter is attracted by the advertisement of instant spot reduction: liposuction. Cross the security line into a danger zone of unknown procedures, performed by unqualified doctors. Some dieters lose their lives in the pursuit of a beautiful body. Stomach staple is another dietary tool that dieters try. The staple food produces significant weight loss, but those who follow the diet endanger their health due to excessive loss of body fluids. The "bandwagon" is always listening for the latest cure on the diet market. A family wedding or special dance is a logical reason for a woman to decide it's time to shed her few unwanted pounds; however, hastily made decisions are difficult to maintain, and the "up-and-comer" soon fails in her attempt. She's the dieter with only fifteen pounds to lose, and as each year flies by, she decides that dieting is harder than eating whatever she wants, and a lot less fun! He promises to lose the excess weight for his ten-year class reunion, but his weight loss promise is not kept. Some women become "promises" during pregnancy and tell everyone that they will lose the extra pounds as soon as the baby is born. The "tomorrow's promise" and the "Monday's promise" are the dieters most people are familiar with and whose excuses they know.
