1. Express what you have learned this semester about how to dispel the myth of the “man hunter and woman gatherer,” which flourished under patriarchal influence in archeology in the early to mid-20th century. Provide some examples of how women contributed in prehistoric or modern tribal societies that were largely overlooked by archaeologists in the past. Your answer: According to our main source Gender in Cross Cultural Perspective, the book together with the conference gave us many examples of barriers and preconditioned notions of men's work or women's work and how these barriers and patterns have been broken and rewritten over time and over the years. It has been proven that women made tools in addition to maintaining a home and family together. We saw examples of women also gathering meat and animals for the family. The decision was not left solely to the man and his troops. It was also found that much of the artistic work and record keeping was not done by men but by women. Women today are responsible for family and providing. They are responsible for providing food and running the house. Women in today's tribes are the center of their exclusive existence. Nowadays women are contributing and active more than ever. The only difference from then is that, both archaeologically and locally, they are recognized as having more to do with the whole scheme of family and care than before. They are more well-known and accepted decisions and traditions. Not only do they maintain the customs of their tribes, but they also allowed and provided their families with greater completeness, letting both sexes participate in all necessary activities. The lines seem to be diminishing and a more well-oiled family and support machine has been created.2. In your opinion and based on what you have learned this semester, what are the three (3) most important global issues facing women today? (500 word essay with supporting information for your choices.) Your Answer: Too many women in their lives are abused for such trivial reasons and in all types of abuse, sexual division of labor and gender expectations and an unheard and still not respected voice. Abuse of all types is a common and overly populated issue. Whether domestic or disguised as religious practices, abuse of women and women of all ages is widespread.
