SETTING This story is set during the time when the "West" of the United States was first being developed, approximately the 1840s. The setting is very vague throughout the book. If there was one area the author could have worked on, it would have been the development of the setting. It relies on a thorough understanding of how the United States' stage of development was perceived in the 1840s. Most of the story takes place on Donnigan's farm. This is a small farm with only a few cattle. The farm had a truly back breaking atmosphere. You could tell right away that there was a lot of work to do on the farm and it wasn't all fun and games. The wild west is where most of the story takes place, this is shown as very dangerous and full of new adventures. PLOTKathleen, a young Irish girl living in England with her evil stepmother, sees a flyer posted on the side of a building on her street. work. Intrigued, she stops to read the flyer and to her surprise the flyer offers a free ticket to the United States, under one condition. You must marry a man who is looking for a wife to live with you...
