Meghanology- The Philosophy of a Creative Teacher"Ineffective teachers will teach using a book, follow a syllabus, or complain about the culture of the students' neighborhood." – Harry Wong (Wong) I believe that students deserve the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their life circumstances. Students will only be as successful as their teacher is in teaching them. I have always believed in thinking outside the box. I have never liked to believe that one way of doing a task is the only way to do it. This concept is the same in the classroom, sometimes the book isn't always the best fit for your students. All students think and work differently, not all students work well reading a book or attending a lesson, some work well in groups and in practical activities. As educators we must find ways to engage all of our students. I follow the progressive approach of education which believes that education focuses on experimentation. Students need to experience what they are taught, they need to learn and teach first hand. Learning by doing is the key to this philosophy. Role of the school The role of the school should be to integrate students into a creative environment where they are challenged daily by various philosophies, experiences, opinions and points of view that students should have the opportunity to explore, reason, evaluate and even bring at home and be able to discuss with their families and the community around them. According to Philosophical and Ideological Views in Education, the progressive approach to education “is about moving outside the four walls that enclose schools from the rest of culture and society and opening the doors to the larger society, the community.” ..... in the middle of the paper... it should be something that stimulates the students. Students should be active in their education, should be challenged, and should continually grow in their education. The Common Core addresses this thinking. They ask that students be encouraged by their teachers to think critically and investigate in class. Students should be able to draw conclusions from text in an English class. They should be encouraged to do this in all lessons and activities. The progressive believes in the advancement of students' education. I believe that all students deserve success, but that parents, students, and teachers must work together to achieve that success. Creativity and encouragement in the classroom are central to my educational philosophy. The only way to be an effective teacher is to step outside the box and into the lives of each of our students.
