A multiethnic society is a society that includes people from a variety of different races, religions, cultures, backgrounds, etc. Multi-ethnic societies can have many negative aspects and positive effects which I will explain in the following paragraphs. The advantage of living in a multi-ethnic society is that you can meet new people and learn interesting things about them. People have the ability to understand others and realize that they are the same as us. It makes people less ignorant and alters stereotypical views they may have previously had from media influence or friends/relatives. We begin to respect them more and understand their opinions on specific topics. This could help people become less racist. Additionally, you have the opportunity to learn a variety of new languages. For example, if you are learning Spanish at school, you could practice it by conversing with someone who has lived there before. You have the opportunity to expand your knowledge of the outside world by learning interesting facts from people of different cultures. It makes life more interesting and less repetitive because without a multi-ethnic society everyone would be similar and you wouldn't experience many new things. We would not know some religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism. The only known religion would be Christianity, so people wouldn't be able to choose from a wide range of religions like you can now. Furthermore, there would be no beautiful buildings such as mosques and temples. Our country would be much more boring and uninteresting. A multi-ethnic society can bring new ideas and ways of doing things into the daily lives of people living in Britain. If we didn't live in a multi-ethnic society many of the things we consider......middle paper......may have a good afterlife. They have a purpose in life and care about what happens to them. Religious people share their beliefs with others and help convert people to their religion. This means that more people become religious. Religious people don't criticize non-religious people, they respect everyone's opinion and don't force them to do anything that creates fewer arguments. Buddhists, for example, believe in karma, meaning that all of one's actions, good and bad, create past, present, and future experiences, thus making someone responsible for their own life. This means that they are more likely to perform good deeds because they believe that the good deeds will result in a better life. If everyone believed in this philosophy, the world would be filled with less hatred, crime and sin, thus creating a more harmonious society. By Harriet Hales
