Topic > A Lie to Save a Life - 1074

In an attempt to justify Kant's argument that there is a possibility that the person hiding has found a way out, so lying might actually kill the victim and say the truth will save it we will analyze a counterpoint. What if Kant is wrong, what if the victim logically assumes that he will be safe? so they don't try to find a way out of the house. If the guest lies and calls the police, they can find the killer and arrest him, but if the guest tells the truth the killer would come in and maybe kill both people and then leave and there would be no justice for those deaths. Or worse yet, they come in and kill the victim and leave the host. Anyone would feel guilty for letting this happen, and while Kant says there would be no blame and that the host did what is morally right, they would not feel that way and would blame themselves. Kant could not support this possibility, and although he may say that there would be no guilt on the person, this is not how most people would rationalize the matter.
