This is an area where support and empowerment are essential, especially if a client feels less able to address society's major systems on their own. It is also an area where a client can be used for many different reasons and we should look beyond a simple diagnosis. It is also a field, as we discussed in class, that is not always culturally competent. Many other cultures may show signs of mental illness when in reality it is the way they function in that group. This is the main reason why professionals should ask clients about their background and questions about their behavior if they are unfamiliar before placement
