Compare and contrast the nation of Islam with the true Islam The Islamic religion is called the original faith. Their sacred text is the Koran and followers of the Islamic religion are called Muslims. They worship God and the prophet Muhammad. However, in the early 1900s, a new religion began, the Nation of Islam. The Nation of Islam is made up of people who also call themselves Muslims, but have a more radical approach to their faith. Although both believers of Nation and Islam are called Muslims, their idea of Islam is very different. Those who believe in the Nation of Islam believe they are a lost tribe of Israel. They believe that blacks, especially the few in the nation, will one day rule the world. In contrast, in Islam, their communities are called ummah. Their mosque is in the center and cities are built around it. This symbolizes a life built around faith. In the Nation of Islam, the temple is also the sense of community. Although their cities are not physically around the temple, their social and spiritual life is centered there. With school, religious functions, banquets, etc. the entire community of believers sees the temple as a common and meeting place. Finally, although both Muslim and Nation of Islam believers cannot eat pork, there are many other restrictions for The Nation. Everything white is bad according to their faith. Followers of the Nation of Islam are forbidden not only to eat pork (like all Muslims), but also to eat or drink anything white. They cannot have white potatoes, milk, white bread, etc. While there are some significant similarities between these two faiths, there are also some important differences. First, in Islam, God works through prophets and does not have a physical form. They do not believe in idols and cannot have images of God. However, in the Nation of Islam, Fard Muhammad was the reincarnation of Allah. He was essentially God in physical form, which is what Islam says
