Why bother pursuing higher education? The average student goes to school starting from kindergarten through high school. Next, students decide whether to seek higher education in college or start working. For most people, the key to education is providing young adults with the ability to survive and earn a living in the future. In this essay, I will not only discuss why it is not necessary for young adults to pursue higher education, such as college and beyond, but also that obtaining a college degree is irrelevant. The first reason I strongly believe in this is that even if students obtain a degree, there is no guaranteed position for a permanent job. Second, some jobs that students are employed in do not require a college degree. Third, after finishing college, students must repay debt that could follow them for years because interest rates and tuition costs are at all-time highs. Finally, attending a four-year college does not necessarily mean they will receive a higher salary than a non-college graduate. First, one of the reasons a college degree is meaningless is because there is no guaranteed job for most students who graduate with a college degree. According to The Atlantic, Jordan Weissmann, a senior associate editor, reports that the U.S. Department of Labor says that "about 1.5 million, or 53.6%, of college graduates under the age of 25 last year were without employed or unemployed, the highest percentage in at least 11 years." From this statistic, it is evident that the majority of graduates holding a bachelor's degree were unemployed. It is shocking to see young adults with credentials unable to find work in this economy. Instead of being like the majority who go to... middle of paper... have difficulty finding work because companies don't hire young graduates with no work experience. Therefore, recovering a degree is not essential for the following reason. First of all, there is no guaranteed job after graduation. Second, some of the jobs that college graduates are employed in don't even require a college degree to begin with. Furthermore, after earning their degree, graduates must pay off their debts, so they will be at a clear financial disadvantage compared to non-graduates. Finally, attending a four-year college does not symbolize a higher salary because anyone can be just as competitive. All these factors demonstrate the effectiveness and significance of how work experience is more important than obtaining a degree. Just as Davis said, “In the work camp it's not how smart someone is, but how well they behave”..”
