Reparative, or reversal, therapy for homosexuality is a little-discussed aspect of the anti-gay community. Programs such as NARTH (National Association for Homosexual Research and Treatment) or Exchange Ministries are organizations specifically aimed at changing a person's sexuality from homosexual to heterosexual. Since different sexualities have been at the center of public attention, there has been an attempt to change those who identify as such. Some of the people who attend such programs choose to do so voluntarily. These are the people who feel uncomfortable with their attraction to members of the same sex. They wish to repress their impulses and live a heterosexual lifestyle. However, most of the people enrolled in these therapy sessions are teenagers forced to attend them by their parents. Often these teenagers and young adults do not want to attend programs, most are still trying to adjust to their sexuality. Still others have accepted who they are and simply don't want to change. Many of those who willingly attend reversal therapies claim to have been cured or at least have reduced their homosexual tendencies. The question is: do these practices really work? In short: No. They don't. Ask anyone who has undergone such treatments and they will tell you of a difficult experience that many of them barely survived. One such case is that of Ryan Kendal.
