Obesity in AmericaAmerica is one of the most obese countries in the world and the reasons are quite obvious. Just take a look around you. There is a fast food chain on every block. Obesity continues to be a serious problem. Between 1980 and 2000, the rate of obesity among adults in the United States nearly doubled. The sad thing is that, even after knowing these facts, people do not practice healthy eating habits that can help prevent obesity, or at least reduce its rate. Additionally, the rate of childhood obesity has doubled in just 30 years. The problem isn't excess fat; are the problems and health risks that result. Approximately 70% of obese youth are at risk of a cardiovascular disease, including breast cancer, colon cancer, kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer, etc. (CDC, 2013). “When it comes to carrying around extra weight, there is a price to pay: medically, socially, professionally, and economically” (Reinert, 2012). Obesity is a rapidly growing epidemic among young adults due to dietary choices and lack of exercise two solutions would be funded health monitoring programs and guided active learning in classrooms to combat childhood obesity the root cause of obesity in America. The sale of processed corn in the form of fast food has become so cheap and readily available that Americans cannot give up such an offer and think about eating healthy. All of these poor food choices come in so many different forms Mary Lowth states that a solution to obesity would include “putting food out of sight, dieting, exercising, and skipping employers' lives (Reinert, 2012) . Conclusion Obesity. It's a growing problem for Americans, especially American children. Fast food indirectly affects the eating habits and obesity of people in the United States. There are several reasons for the growing popularity of fast food, but it is a fact that fast food is not a very healthy and balanced food. By avoiding this type of food you can easily get enough energy to exercise and cut down on high-density foods. The growing cause of childhood obesity can be reduced if society focuses on the causes. Choosing healthier meals and exercising regularly can significantly reduce the rate. Focusing on these causes can, over time, reduce childhood obesity and foster a healthier society as a whole. Government-funded health programs and active learning in classrooms are a great way to start reducing obesity rates.
