Nothing would be the same today if society had not experienced the most unprecedented transformation that occurred during the 1920s. This famous decade later became known as the Roaring Twenties. It got its name following the epidemic that transformed the country from a nation of conservation to a nation of diversification. One of the reasons for this epidemic is due to the use of fashion. This alteration occurred essentially in large cities in the western part of the country, such as New York. Only later did the southern areas also join the new customs house. With drastically diversified innovation in fashion to express power, wealth, and self-determination underway, the 1920s became the era of change for society's view on lifestyle. Elegant clothes were the best way for individuals to display their prosperity. Rich men were normally seen wearing suits of the finest fabrics, giving them a strong professional introspection. Men like this automatically earned more respect than lower class men because the more classy they appeared, the more intimidating they became in the eyes of others. Women who wore excessive jewelry and extravagant clothing tended to stand out, making them more desired by men and envied by other women. Author Elizabeth Hurlock described that fashion reflects how a person is viewed by society (Themes in American History). He also stated, “One of the main values of clothing is that it allows people to advertise themselves in a way that will attract the attention and admiration of others” (Themes in American History). Those who craved this kind of attention believed that to stand out they had to be different and the best way to do that was to dress in a luxurious… medium… Clothing choices helped transform the nation into what it is today . Thanks to this drastically diversified innovation in fashion, people were able to express power, wealth, and self-determination in the 1920s, making it the era of change.
