Yalom's second chapter in the book “Love's Executioner” (2000) describes the therapy of a terminally ill man, named Carlos, who had alienated members and other people during his group therapy in his life. He had also used his preoccupation with sex as a means of denying death. Yalom approaches Carlos in several therapeutic ways; using psychodynamic therapy, person-centered therapy, rational emotional behavioral therapy and Adlerian therapy. Psychoanalysis as therapy is based on the theory that there is a causal relationship between an individual's current mental development, his or her wants and needs, his or her needs and behavior, both conscious and unconscious, and his or her past experiences (Corey , 2009; Luborsky, O'Reilly-Landry, & Arlow, 2008). Various schools of depth psychology developed from psychoanalysis. The term "psychoanalysis" is, therefore, suitable for Freud's theories on the psychodynamics of the unconscious, based on a descriptive and explanatory model of the human psyche, as well as for psychoanalytic therapy, a set of methods for the treatment of internal and interpersonal conflicts, as well as in the psychoanalytic method which deals with the study of cultural phenomena. Other important concepts in psychoanalysis include the analysis of transference and countertransference and the examination of defense mechanisms (Corey, 2009; Luborsky, O'Reilly-Landry, & Arlow, 2008). Defense mechanisms are a method of the "ego" to counteract the needs and drives of the "id", which were limited by the "superego". Defense mechanisms are not conscious, but largely unconscious. Freud started from the assumption that people use defense mechanisms every day, but these can become pathological if an individual is in difficulty... in the midst of documents and behaviors.
