The purpose of this report is to provide answers to questions presented in the research project in Rasmussen's general psychology course. The first question to ask was what are the five personality traits according to the prominent five-factor model. According to the website psychology.suite101 (Pawlik-Kienlen, 2007) the big five personality traits are as follows: • Conscientiousness: Being disciplined, dedicated, and organized. This also means being self-disciplined, having goals in life and striving to achieve them. • Agreeableness – being pleasant and easy to get along with, cooperative, compassionate, and kind-hearted • Neuroticism – being easily influenced by negative emotions such as depression, anger, or anxiety, moody • Openness – being willing to try new things and ideas, experiencing new adventures, art appreciation, imaginative, creative • Extraversion – being positive, optimistic, energetic and confident The second question asked was to explain what it means to be high or low in these traits. My explanation is that being high or low in a specific trait is not necessarily good or bad. Most people fall into the average or “normal” range. It is just an indication of where someone ranks on the scale in each specific area to determine what the individual's personality traits tend to be. The next assignment was to read the scientific article: The Big Five Personality Traits, General Mental Ability, and Lifetime Career Success and answer which two personality traits correlate with job satisfaction and briefly describe those correlations. The two personality traits that are most correlated with job satisfaction are conscientiousness and extroversion. Conscientiousness due to the tendency... middle of paper... definition provided in each of them, I could easily see them reflected in my personality. The results are as follows:1. Extroversion - (25) average - I am not very energetic nor excessively reserved.2. Agreeableness - (26) average - I am not overly trusting nor am I very aggressive3. Conscientiousness - (41) relatively high - I am very methodical and organized but I am not easily distracted4. Neuroticism - (11) relatively low - I am confident and relaxed but not overly emotional5. Openness - (19) relatively low - I am not exceptionally creative nor seek culture. I'm more of a down to earth person. Note: According to the test, the score on each scale is interpreted against a large sample of people who took the test, and relatively high means my score was in the top 30% and relatively low means my score was at the bottom 30%.
