She stated that “[she] was born with religion” (Satrapi 6). This suggests the depth of Satrapi's religiosity. Religion played an important role in Satrapi's younger life, which is evident when she declares that she will be the next prophet and that "[every night] [she] had a big argument with God" (Satrapi 8). His relationship with God is one he loved. However, during the war, this identity was also lost. His relationship with God begins to decline. It is first noticed when God doesn't show up one night after she argues with her parents about allowing her to attend a protest with them. She shouts "God, where are you?" but there is no answer (Satrapi 17). This symbolizes the beginning of the end of her relationship with Him. Once again, it is war that tears away another piece of who Satrapi was. The annihilation of this relationship comes later when Satrapi's uncle Anoosh is killed. According to her childhood mentality, God was allowing this to happen. God allowed his beloved uncle Anoosh to be murdered. All he could see in God was a tyrant telling him to “shut up, you!
