In the novel The Alchemist by Michael Scott, Nicholas and his wife Perenelle Flamel have the secret of eternal life hidden in the Book of Abraham the Magician, which Nicholas protects. It is the most powerful book that has ever existed, and if it falls into the wrong hands, it could destroy the world. This is exactly what Dr. John Dee has in mind once he steals the book. The prophecy may be right, if so, Sophie and Josh Newman are the only ones with the power to save the world. Sophie and Josh face many challenges once they enter Nicholas and Perenelle's lives. Many challenges are faced in this novel, just a few include Dr. John Dee trying to steal the Book of Abraham the Wizard and Sophie awakening. Nicholas Flamel said: "Once, long ago, we were simple people, but then I bought a book, the Book of Abraham the Magician, usually called the Codex. From that time on things changed. Perenelle has changed. I have changed . I became the Alchemist.” I chose the passage above as one of the most important in the novel The Alchemist, because it introduces how Nicholas and Perenelles's life changed, so suddenly. Nicholas stated: “...we were simple people, but then I bought a book, the Book of Abraham the Magician...", from this statement we can understand what happened to change the couple's lives. It is stated that they were normal people until the Book of Abraham the Magician gradually came into play which we read later in the book, they learn about the magical powers of Nicholas and Perenelle. The passage stated by Nicholas may go some way to explaining how they obtained them. Before they possessed the Book of Abraham the Magician, they had no magical powers and lived a normal life. The passage tells readers that Nicholas and Perenelle both talk...... middle of the paper ...... the message warns Josh and Sophie of a couple of things: they can't trust anyone but themselves, they are very involved in danger and it suggests to them that the road ahead will have many challenges. In conclusion, Nicholas Flamel, Scathach, and the twins face many challenges as they are on their way to save the world. Nicolas and Scathach both possess magical powers and bring magical powers to Sophie as well, with Hekate's help. Sophie and Josh face creatures they've never met before and have no idea what they're capable of. Nicholas, Perenelle, and Scathatch all have eternal life as long as they can keep the Book of Abraham the Wizard. With the Book of Abraham the Wizard, Nicholas, Perenelle and Scathach all possess magical powers, but if the book is stolen they will weaken in a few days, so Sophie and Josh are ready to save the day.!
