Topic > Prejudice against women depicted in Glaspell's, A Jury...

A Jury of Her Peers by Susan Glaspell is a story that reveals how women were subject to prejudice in the early part of the 1900s. The story revolves around Minnie Mouse Wright, who was at the center of a murder investigation, and two other women, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters, who decide their own verdict and Mrs. Wright's fate. Even though women were at the height of sexual discrimination, Susan Glaspell shows how a woman's connection and intuition far surpass that of any man. The struggle that women faced throughout history shows how difficult it was for women to live in a male-dominated world. When Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters first enter Minnie Wright's house, they see how lonely and neglected her house was. The men couldn't understand why a woman would keep her house in that condition, but the women determined how sad and depressed Mrs. Wright was. "I could have known you needed help! I tell you it's strange, Mrs. Peters. We live close and we live far apart. We all go through the same things - it's just a different kind of life." same thing! If not, because you and I understand?...
