As we see in both passages, the characters not only deal with their situation but also inspire each and every person to overcome their problems and the best way to do that is to accept it ce there is one. However, if we let society judge us and determine what we should be, things will become worse than they actually are. Mair and Hurston's purpose in writing these selections is to show the changes that people can undergo due to their social conditions.
