The SwimmerIn this world there have been many successful people who through hard work have achieved what they wanted in life. We see this all the time in today's world. Every rise must have a fall as usual. Some of these successful individuals may be celebrities or just ordinary people in our communities. One thing that is certain is that when you have an addiction to something, that addiction can take you right back to where you started or even lower. We've seen it in celebrities. When they are at the peak of their career, suddenly you realize that they are involved in some kind of addiction, which makes them fall down that ladder. The Swimmer is a story that has many interpretations that we can identify with. The story begins by introducing Neddy who in this case is the main character. Neddy is at the poolside with some friends having a drink and feels young and energetic and decides to go back to his house by swimming in all the pools he comes across. The story continues as an adventure for him. He swims in all his neighbors' pools and in every house he stops at there is a unique situation. At first I thought he was under the influence or under the influence of some kind of drug. When the story comes to an end we see that Neddy has lost everything. The story has a twist that we need to read carefully to understand. The two criticisms that I will use in this text are Marxist criticism and psychological criticism. The novel really depicts how Neddy basically throws his entire life away. At the beginning of the story he is a young man who gives us the impression that he is rich and has been successful in his life up until that day. When we go straight to the ending we see that he has lost everything, but how did this happen? The statistics of the story... middle of the paper... the story can relate to many of us and we can relate to some of Neddy's actions as well. In today's world you can also go from being someone to being nobody in the blink of an eye. The choices we make in life can sometimes hurt us or sometimes help us. Depending on the person's situation we can sometimes understand why they have reached the point of falling to the lowest level. Some people choose to go there because of an addiction, but in other cases people don't choose to and life simply takes them there. In Neddy's case I believe he chose to be there because he appears to be someone who was simply wasting his money on friends and once he had wasted it he asked his neighbors to borrow money. After all this story makes good connections to the world and really makes us open our eyes and see how fast time can pass and we will grow old and time won't stop.
