In Thumb, a man and his wife had seven children, the youngest and smallest was Tom Thumb. When the parents ran out of money, they decided to abandon the boys in the woods. This happened twice. The second time they couldn't find their way home, but they came across a house they wanted to stay in. They needed protection from wolves who might eat them during the night. This house belonged to an ogre and his wife. The wife smuggled the boys in and tried to convince the ogre not to eat them. He initially agreed, but at night he accidentally killed his seven daughters instead of the boys, all thanks to little Tom Thumb tricking him. Tom Thumb and his brothers ran away the next day and he tricked the ogre's wife into giving him all their riches which he took to his house.
