Muslim women must dress to cover their heads, arms and legs as a sign of respect for their religious beliefs. Living in the society we live in today, the clothing factor will be a big change for me as clothing can be one of the things that defines you. Another thing that will be difficult will be the fact that Muslims show very different rules than I am used to. According to the textbook Cross Cultural Psychology Critical Thinking and Contemporary Applications, 2013, by Eric B Shiraev and David A. Levy, “viewing rules are acquired primarily during socialization, each culture has particular sanctions that support viewing rules or models of emotional expression..." (p.160). This shows that each religion and culture has its own set of ideals that it follows in accordance with its emotions. For example, Muslims tend to believe that they should not be too happy nor show their sadness for completeness. They feel that if they are too happy they will raise their hopes on that particular occasion and when things go wrong they will not be able to recover easily. While if they are extremely sad, it will somehow go against their religious beliefs in the do anything possible to prevent them from harming themselves, Muslims feel that this could then lead to bad things as sadness can sometimes cause people to do crazy things. Furthermore, I believe that Muslims believe that feeling any kind of emotion can cause a person to do things that they later regret and, therefore, disrespect their religious beliefs.
