Psychologists don't have many tangible details about personalities due to the fact that a variety of things influence it. Our family, friends and environment influence our personality the most. But one influence that many people overlook is the hardships an individual goes through. The Roman poet Horace once said that “adversity has the effect of awakening talents that in prosperous circumstances would have remained dormant.” Many people disagree with him and believe that no matter what happens, a person will behave the same way before and after the event. But in reality, broad complications such as illnesses, family problems, and financial issues highlight traits such as appreciation of life, responsibility, and working harder. Illnesses and illnesses affect many people but they don't just affect their health; it also impacts their personality. At one point in the book the boy, Augustus, said something like "I won't let myself be deprived of good things" when Hazel asked him why he was staring at her. Throughout the book there are many instances like this where the characters marvel at all the little beautiful things in life that so many healthy people take for granted. Cancer has changed these characters because they have grasped the idea that they can die at any moment. This is why they accept every extra minute as a gift from God. They have experienced an obstacle, in this case cancer, which has brought out new traits in their personality. ...... middle of paper ...... rn out to be. They argue that there is nothing that impacts our personality. If this were legitimate, then all human beings would have identical character traits. All human beings possess unique personalities because we all go through different life experiences. The various events we go through change our characters, making us all exceptional individuals. Life-threatening illnesses, family problems, and financial complications bring out all kinds of characters, including appreciation, responsibility, and commitment to working harder. Horace said that all types of adversity bring out character traits and I completely agree. Every little obstacle an individual goes through affects his personality. Since everyone in the world has gone through some kind of hardship that shaped them to be the person they are today, I wonder how different human beings would be if hardships didn't change anyone at all.
