According to the book World Religions Today, by John L. Esposito, Darrell J. Fasching and Todd Lewis, in the section entitled The Sacred, it is stated that religion "expresses our sense of being" related and bound” by relationships of obligation to whatever powers we believe govern our destiny, whether natural or supernatural, personal or impersonal, one or many” (9). Furthermore, the book World Religions Today, by John L. Esposito, Darrell J. Fasching, and Todd Lewis, states that the religions of various peoples over the years or centuries have proven to be essentially as diverse as the types or forms of power that they exercise. people essentially believe they govern human destiny. Where these types or forms of power “have ranged from gods as forces of nature to invisible ancestral spirits or spirits associated with sacred sites, to more impersonal sacred forces or energies; or finally the mysterious powers that govern history (including the seemingly secular powers associated with wealth and politics that are treated as if they were “sacred”) (9). Therefore, by this logic, religion can then be anything that creates a following that people can be tied to and bound to, which can include how religion can be seen as something like power, money, or even fame. Therefore it can be argued that, given these conditions in which a religion can consist, it could be said with certainty that a major professional sport such as baseball can also have the sufficient requirements or conditions to also be considered a religion. . Therefore it can be argued that baseball in and of itself is a religion because, just like other types of religions, baseball creates a following that people can be tied to and bound to. Even baseball, just... middle of paper... everything. One of the things the game and players have always done is give back. They have never taken what they have for granted. It's really important for these kids to make a lasting contribution to these communities." What may be found intriguing in this quote is that if you keep in mind that this charity or volunteer work was done during the MLB All-Star Game weekend, when MLB players are normally focused on playing well and win the All-Star Game so that their league, be it the American League or the National League, wins home field advantage in the World Series. It can therefore be seen that the game of baseball is not only about pleasing its fans based on the performance of the MLB players on the field during games, but it is also about helping the community in an effort to once again promote the general well-being of others in every possible way.
