Intuitive Surgical is a company founded by a surgeon turned entrepreneur named Fred Moll. Fred Moll observed surgeries and developed robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery (MIS). In doing so, Fred Moll provided the opportunity to make patients' lives easier after surgery. These robot-assisted surgical machines were first introduced to the battlefield, allowing surgeons to operate on wounded soldiers remotely. These MIS allowed for minimal incisions and faster recovery times, fewer complications, and lower hospital costs. Intuitive Surgical had the opportunity to take over this area in the medical field and had the chance to push this innovative idea globally, all while securing patents that no one can copy. It all starts when a surgeon-turned-entrepreneur observed surgeries and invented idea robots that performed the task. Intuitive Surgical targets key institutions such as academic and community hospitals. When a hospital purchases a robotic system, Intuitive Surgical will educate surgeons and patients about the benefits of using robotic systems. When a hospital can get maximum use out of an Intuitive Surgical robotic system and the patient is satisfied, then the likelihood of purchasing another system in the future will increase. These three systems are mentioned above Research, networking and observation. While Intuitive Surgical could have benefited greatly from some of the other discovery capabilities, it did a great job on the ones it used. A particular discovery, a skill that I thought might benefit Intuitive Surgical was experimenting with. Indeed, Intuitive Surgical has been successful; I am convinced that by experimenting more with the products they could have found further innovative ideas. A successful business doesn't just stop at the necessary; they find additional ideas that could turn into possible changes in current products. Fred Moll, a surgeon, took the time to observe that surgeries are innovative ideas to make patients' lives easier and brighter in themselves. Thanks to Intuitive Surgical's networking with universities globally, this gives them the opportunity to introduce ideas that some future surgeons may never have heard of.
