Leaders need to be held accountable in some way by the organization. According to Dees, accountability is the endpoint of three leadership expectations. Leaders have authority, they have responsibility, and for that authority and responsibility they should be held accountable. (Dees, 2013, p. 51) In Organizational Management and Leadership it is discussed that leaders with legitimate power have that power because of position. (Satterlee, 2013, p. 8) If that power is not held accountable to staff, other leaders, policies, procedures, mission, and vision, power could easily run amok and be detrimental to efficiency and sustainability.
