In Antigone, the two brothers, Polynices and Eteocles, fought for the throne of Thebes and killed each other. When Creon became king of Thebes, he buried Etecules with honor but not Polyneices. He allowed Polyneices' body to rot and be eaten by vultures and vermin, because he believed that Polyneices was a traitor. Since Etecules died fighting to protect Thebes, he should have been buried with honor, so Creon believed. Antigone, however, believed that both should be honored with a proper burial despite the crime committed by Polyneices. The two main characters of the play Antigone and Creon had different beliefs regarding divine law compared to human law. This is why an argument began between Antigone and Creon which led to a tragic ending of the work. Between the two of them, which one had the better argument? Antigone, who believed that God's law was more important, because according to God's law, a person's burial is a duty regardless of the person's action. He couldn't bear to see his brother unburied. She fought to give him a proper burial, even though she knew she would be sentenced to death for her act. On the other hand, Creon believed that man-made law has greater power than God's law, because it is based on personal action. For example, due to Polynices' action as a traitor, he should not have received a burial. Antigone defied Creon's order because of the values she believed in, she believed it was right to bury her brother Polynices, and she believed that God's law was more important and should come before anything else. Antigone seemed to be the only character to have lasting loyalty, as she was willing to die for her brother Polyneices' right to a proper burial when she said, "I can face death, but I cannot... middle of paper." .....Eved is right. His position acts out of love, respect and loyalty to his family and concern for his brother's afterlife. I believe that divine law, which can be described as God's law, should be held in high regard, but I also believe that man-made law, such as the one invented by King Creon, should be recognized and followed. You have to weigh divine law and human law if you find yourself in a situation where you have to take one side. My conclusion is that Antigone has the better argument and reason, when she chooses to go against Creon and bury her brother, in accordance with the fact that God's law is much more important than man's law. And that Creon was wrong for even inventing this law with the death penalty. Antigone had the right to bury her brother and her brother had the right to receive a proper burial that honored his family.
