After the string of recent burglaries and crimes in our neighborhood, Chief Gary Swindle asked me to come up with a plan to create a Neighborhood Watch program. This is a formal outline of how I intend to organize a day and night watch, how I intend to screen and select our volunteers, what training will be required for those who choose to participate, and how I intend to maintain interest and continued participation. First, we should establish a committee and a point person. The liaison will be the main person responsible for planning meetings, talking with the police to obtain data on crime rates, and creating leaflets to encourage participation from the entire neighborhood. We will collect phone numbers from people in the neighborhood so we can contact each other to keep each other updated on what's going on or let them know if you suspect activity around their home.
