As a child grows up it may seem like a simple matter of blowing out a different number of candles each year. However, there are multiple psychological factors involved in this process. Factors include the role of parents in the child's life, peer pressure, the culture in which the child is raised, and television. These factors work together to shape a child's social development. Parents are seen as role models and supports for the child from birth. As a model, their actions teach children the difference between right and wrong. As support, they provide love and care. In addition to love, care and knowledge, they exercise control and provide discipline. Not all parents are the same because they are different individuals with different perspectives on how they want to raise their children. Because of these perspectives, the types of parents are, but not limited to, authoritarian parents, authoritative parents, permissive parents, and neglectful parents. Authoritarian parents, although the severity varies, are those who exercise complete control over their children and expect complete and unquestioning obedience. They often punish bad behavior and do not think through policies. This type of parenting is obnoxious and secretive and creates space between them and their children. The results of this type of parenting style include, but are not limited to, lack of social skills and low achievement levels in some children and higher academic achievement in others, such as in Asian culture. On a less severe but still severe level there are authoritative parents. Unlike authoritarian parents, authoritative parents set reasonable and achievable standards with limits. Additionally, this parenting style encourages reasoning and discussing rules. Because the... center of the paper... is difficult to wear. However, peer relationships show a link with parenting styles and culture. Therefore, in my opinion, valuing control over one can influence the other, which also results in balance. These psychological factors play a crucial role in child development. They are also very diverse and have a range of variety resulting in individuals with all forms of perspectives and ranges of behaviors. Without them, growing up would simply mean blowing out a different number of candles every year. With them I believe that another candle could mean one less rule or restriction from their parents or one more hour of television. With each change of candles the film range also increases from PG to PG-13. Growing up doesn't just mean changing your height and weight, but also changing your psychological mindset and social skills.
