Topic > Analysis Of The Castle Museum - 1009

I decided to write my article on a building that I consider aesthetically pleasing. The building I chose is the castle museum in downtown Saginaw, Michigan. The Castle Museum was a building originally constructed to be a post office. It has French Renaissance architecture and was dedicated on July 3, 1898. The architect behind this building was William Martin Aitken and he stated that his design for this building should be inspired by the early French settlement of the Saginaw Valley. It is said that once the city of Saginaw began to expand, so did the post office. The castle building was and still is known as a popular landmark in Saginaw. After thirty years of opening as a post office, the new post office building was built and the castle building was renamed Castle Sub Station. This building has three floors of exhibits that explore the rich history of Saginaw County. The Historical Society of Saginaw County maintains and preserves a collection of more than 100,000 artifacts that are used for exhibits and research. Programs are offered that include lectures, tours and a mobile museum and classroom called History in Motion. The mobile museum is usually known for school visits. I think this building is very pleasant for many reasons. One of the reasons is because it is located downtown, where not everything is so nice, but it brings out a positive aspect in that area. Another is that the building itself has many elements that attract many people. Finally, one of the most enjoyable things is the knowledge you can learn from the building. The reason I feel like this building is very nice is because, first, it brings a positive vibe to downtown Saginaw. With the city of Sag being... the center of the paper... the first holes, archaeologists Jeff Sommer and a team of volunteers found portions of brick foundations, charred wood, molten glass and other artifacts. In the summer of 2011, the team, which included students from Central Michigan University, continued excavating the site. More artifacts were found and it became apparent that the Museum could create an exhibit focused on the artifacts found. In conclusion, I believe that every place has a building that makes or breaks the area it is in. I believe my city has areas where some buildings tear down the area. As a Saginaw resident I really didn't want to bring the negative into this newspaper, I would rather bring the positive into my newspaper. I hate the negativity the world has about Saginaw. But what they fail to understand is that every place has a downfall, and the rise of Saginaw is coming!
