This case also shows that the Balanced Scorecard is an important first step in providing support in measuring and improving quality standards in large projects (Basu, 2009). This case also demonstrates that even other more expensive alternatives that can be used to evaluate the project do not offer managers the same or as good insight as that of the Balanced Scorecard. The Balanced Scorecard is successful because it reduces everything to the fundamental concepts and makes them easier to read and understand. The Balanced Scorecard for this project was able to show managers not only their short-term goals, but also long-term goals for the project that allowed them to accomplish everything they wanted to happen. Using the Balanced Scorecard, managers at every level of the Heathrow Terminal 5 project were able to see the objectives that had been set and were able to pursue and achieve them. Because the Balanced Scorecard is a living document, it can easily be re-evaluated throughout the year to ensure the company is still on track to meet its goals. If they've gone off track or something has changed, you can easily edit it on the Balanced Scorecard so everyone in the company is able to see the change and move towards the new
